CIVIL SERVICE IMPARTIALITY - yesterday there was an Urgent Question in the Commons on Sir Keir Starmer’s decision to hire senior civil servant Sue Gray as his Chief of Staff, which I took part in and asked why he still refuses to answer when the first contact took place.
I have worked with many civil servants over the years and have found them to be consummate professionals who leave their personal beliefs at the door. I am therefore disappointed at this irresponsible appointment by Labour, which tarnishes the proud reputation of our civil service.
“To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office if he will make a statement on the impartiality of the civil service in light of the proposed appointment of the Second Permanent Secretary to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities as Chief of Staff to the Leader of the Opposition.”
