CF is a genetic condition that causes the lungs and digestive system to become clogged with mucus, affecting approximately 11,000 people in the UK. Cystic Fibrosis Week, June 12-18, is all about celebrating the significant progress in CF research and spreading hopes for the community's future by raising awareness of Cystic Fibrosis.
CF not only affects those diagnosed physically and mentally but can also burden people financially. According to a recent report conducted by the University of Bristol, the additional cost of living with CF is over £6,500 per year. Cystic Fibrosis Trust has concluded in a recent survey that, in the last 12 months, 1 in 4 had worried about CF costs daily.
Thanks to research, which is the theme of this year's Cystic Fibrosis Week, the median age of death for someone with cystic fibrosis has increased from 31 in 2016 to 38 in 2021. However, this is still tragically young and highlights why research must continue to be supported.
To raise awareness for Cystic Fibrosis research, join Wear Yellow Day on Friday, June 16th, to show your support for Cystic Fibrosis.
