POSTAL VOTING FRAUD - Today I asked Minister for the Cabinet Office Chloe Smith about the prospect of us having all postal vote elections in the spring, which many have raised concerns over.
I was reassured that there is a commitment to allowing people to vote in the manner they see fit and that steps have been taken ensure the integrity of votes.
In the past people have reported incidents of ‘ballot harvesting’, which involves groups of political activists collecting people’s votes and submitting them themselves, rather than the voter doing it.
This behaviour is wrong and the Electoral Commission says this about postal votes:
“It is absolutely clear that anyone acting on behalf of a party or campaign should not solicit the collection of any ballot paper. Wherever practical, the voter should be encouraged to post or deliver the completed ballot paper themselves.”
If people knock on your door asking to collect your postal vote then please report them immediately.
