3G Pitches - One issue I have been approached about is access to local public sports facilities, especially with all-weather surfaces. Today I raised this issue in the House of Commons.
“I very much welcome this Government’s commitment to sport and its many benefits, particularly those linked to health and well-being.
Whilst this weekend is a special one in Bassetlaw, as we see the men’s teams of SJR Worksop FC take on Retford United FC in a game we locally refer to as El Bassico, they also run many teams for youngsters in our area.
Unfortunately, and particularly at this time of year, they face the challenge of finding suitable all weather surfaces to play on and despite its size, many youngsters from Worksop have to travel to other areas to find a 3G pitch to play on.
We are therefore calling on the council to get their act together and help provide our local youngsters with the leisure facilities they deserve.
Would the Leader of House therefore find time for a debate on the importance of public sporting facilities and their benefits to health and well-being?”
