Since 2010, the Conservative Government have created an apprenticeship system from the ground up and delivered 5.7 million apprenticeships for young people – playing a vital role in growing our local economy.
However, new analysis shows that Labour would cut [FIGURE B] apprenticeships in [CONSTITUENCY], letting down our young people by denying them the skills they need because they can’t say how they would boost apprenticeships because they don’t have plan.
The plan under Rishi Sunak and the Conservatives is working, and if we stick with it, we can continue to ensure young people get the skills they need to secure high-skilled jobs for a brighter future.
Brendan Clarke-Smith has warned that as we celebrate apprentices this week, we must not reverse our hard work by allowing Labour to cut 370 apprenticeships in constituency.
Apprenticeship week provides the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our fantastic apprentices across the country, and to reflect on the Conservative Government’s achievements in creating an apprenticeship system from the ground up.
Since taking office in 2010, the Conservative Government has delivered 5.7 million apprenticeships and currently offers nearly 700 apprenticeship training courses to offer young people with a diverse range of career pathways and the skills they need to succeed.
Just this week, the Conservative Government announced they are introducing a new teaching apprenticeship that will offer a high-quality, alternative route for people to become qualified teachers.
This is on top of record levels of funding in skills and apprenticeships with investment to apprenticeships increasing to £2.7 billion by 2024-25, creating a world-leading skills system that is employer-focused, high quality, and fit for the future.
However, new analysis shows that this would all be at risk under a Labour Government – taking us back to square one with 370 apprenticeships cut under Labour in Bassetlaw.
The choice is clear. We can stick with the plan that is working under Rishi Sunak and the Conservatives, which is creating more opportunities for our young people to gain the skills they need to succeed in life so they can build a brighter future.
Or we can go back to square one with Sir Keir Starmer and Labour, who can’t say what they’d do to boost apprenticeships because they don’t have a plan, meaning apprenticeships halved, less choice and lower standards – taking us back to square one.
Commenting, Brendan Clarke-Smith said:
“I hear from my constituents the impact the Conservative Government’s apprenticeship scheme has had on opening up new opportunities and career pathways, as well as playing a critical role in to the local economy of Bassetlaw.
“Despite this success, Labour would halve the number of apprenticeships in Bassetlaw from 740 to 370.
“Labour simply do not have a plan and would risk all the progress this Conservative Government has made by halving apprenticeships, meaning less choice and lower standards and taking us back to square one.”
Commenting, Minister for Skills, Apprenticeships and Higher Education, Robert Halfon MP, said:
“Apprenticeship week is an opportunity to reflect on all that apprentices across the country have achieved and the immense contribution they continue to make to our economy.
“Under the Conservatives and Rishi Sunak, our plan is working with over 5.7 million people starting apprenticeships since 2010 – enabling young people to climb the ladder of opportunity to good jobs and higher wages.
“This progress would be destroyed by Labour who would take us back to square one by halving apprenticeships, risking the futures of thousands of young people across the country.”
