At Prime Minister's Questions (PMQ's) this week I raised the earlier news that all Wilko stores across the country would close, as well as the closure of Wilko HQ and distribution centre here in Worksop.
I'm quite clear that Wilko has been mismanaged for years, but despite this in the last decade £77million has been paid out to shareholders, and recently the HQ had been sold for £48 million.
I asked the Prime Minister if he could reassure local workers that he and the Government would do everything within their power to support affected workers into new employment, and to protect pensions and redundancy.
I also asked for the Government to ensure that the leadership of Wilko is made accountable for the siutation they have created.
As your Member of Parliament, I will continue to fight for residents who have been affected by the mismanagement of Wilko by its previous owners, and to support workers to make the transition into new jobs and employment.
