20% VAT on Independent School Fees - last week I spoke out on this awful proposed Labour policy. All it will do is serve as a tax on aspiration and cause capacity issues for local state schools, which are already full.
We have some excellent independent schools in Bassetlaw such as Worksop College and Ranby House. Losing pupils because of this unnecessary tax, which won’t raise the money Labour think it will, will only serve to put pressure on outstanding state schools, like those run by Outwood Grange Academies Trust and others.
I am also appalled that Labour have said they will not exempt special schools from this VAT charge, targeting some of the most vulnerable children in society.
