Today I took part in a debate on the future of coal in the U.K. Whilst it’s important that we look for clean, efficient and renewable alternatives, there is still a need for coal in the meantime and we should therefore discuss alternatives to simply importing it.
It also gave me a chance to talk about some exciting plans for exploring geothermal energy in former pits and also to highlight the Mineworkers Pension Scheme.
It’s important to realise the part that mining has played in our communities and today I also gave the House some examples of this in Harworth, such as the stained glass memorial at All Saints’ Church or Harworth Colliery Football Club.
