Thank you to Floods Minister Rebecca Pow, officials from the Environment Agency, local councils and also to our councillors for assessing our flood defence needs in and around Worksop, as well as discussing other schemes such as Retford Beck and West Stockwith.
It is vitally important that we have defences in place and can fund a scheme for the area, especially after the recent floods of 2019.
What is apparent, is that any scheme for Worksop needs to take account of our town centre and therefore funding for the regeneration of our town centre needs to go hand-in-hand with flood money.
This makes it more important than ever to make sure we are successful in bidding for the Levelling Up Fund, which will mean £20m for Worksop if we are successful and will then trigger further funds to help us finally deal with our flooding problems.
Despite being Category 1, which is the most needy category for funding, we were not one of the areas awarded Levelling Up Funds. I have asked the department why Bassetlaw District Council was not successful this time around with the bid they submitted and I am hoping to have feedback shortly, which I will publish here.
