Yesterday the a Government announced reforms to the Human Rights Act and replacing it with a British Bill of Rights. This is something I have campaigned on for years, so I’m delighted we are now taking action.
The Human Rights Act is constantly exploited - especially by criminals - and it’s time it was replaced.
The reforms announced aim for the following:
Stopping the use of certain rights to frustrate deportation of criminals.
Ending spurious human rights claims from clogging up our courts.
Restoring common sense to stop criminals abusing the justice system.
Strengthening the right to freedom of expression.
Recognising the right to jury trial.
Ensuring the primacy of our British courts and Parliament following Brexit.
